    GENERAL PREM GYANI, COMMANDER OF THE UNITED NATIONS FORCED IN CYPRUS, AND OTHER UN OFFICIALS ARE TODAY (MONDAY) MEETING LEADERS OF BOTH THE GREEK AND TURKISH CYPRIOT COMMUNITIES IN A FURTHER EFFORT TO EASE TENSION BETWEEN THEM. IT IS EXPECTED THAT THE UN FORCE WILL BE REINFORCED TODAY BY MORE THAN 500 FINNISH TROOPS WHO ARE DUE TO ARRIVE IN NICOSIA BY AIR.

    MEANWHILE, FIGHTING BETWEEN THE TWO COMMUNITIES HAS CONTINUED IN MANY PARTS OF THE ISLAND. A VISNEWS CAMERAMAN YESTERDAY RUN A GAUNTLET OF FIRE TO PICTURE THE FIGHTING IN AYIOS THEODOROS, ABOUT 600 MILES NORTH OF FAMAGUSTA, WHICH IS TYPICAL OF MANY OF THE OUTBREAKS.

    IN THE PAST THREE DAYS, FIGHTING IN THE VILLAGE HAS INTENSIFIED AND GREEK-CYPRIOT POLICE BACKED UP BY NATIONAL GUARDSMEN HAVE TAKEN UP POSITIONS IN THE TURKISH-CYPRIOT QUARTER. TWO GREEK-CYPRIOTS HAVE BEEN KILLED.

    UN FORCES HAVE ALSO ARRIVED IN THE AREA TO TRY AND EVACUATE 150 TURKISH-CYPRIOT WOMEN AND CHILDREN.
