    A MILITARY MUSEUM CONTAINING EXAMPLES OF BRITISH, GERMAN AND ITALIAN ARMS AND OTHER SOUVENIRS OF THE WESTERN DESERT CAMPAIGN IN WORLD WAR TWO, HAS BEEN OPENED AT EL ALAMEIN.

    BUILT AT A COST OF GBP60,000, THE MUSEUM COMPRISES FOUR LARGE HALLS WITH ADJOINING OFFICES. ONE HALL CONTAINS UNIFORMS AND FLAGS OF THE CAMPAIGN, WHILE ANOTHER HAS A GOOD MAP SHOWING THE RETREAT AND ADVANCE OF THE EIGHT ARMY FROM SEPTEMBER 1940 TO NOVEMBER 1942. HERE, AMONG OTHER THINGS THERE ARE PORTRAITS OF FIELD MARSHALS MONTGOMERY AND ROMMEL, AND OF SIR WINSTON CHURCHILL.

    THERE ARE TWO "EGYPTIAN HALLS" WHICH SHOW ARMS CAPTURED BY THE EGYPTIANS IN THE YEMEN. OUTSIDE THE MUSEUM THERE ARE SOME SHERMAN TANKS, USED BY THE EIGHT ARMY, AND ONE GERMAN 88 MILLIMETRE GUN.

    THE MUSEUM IS ABOUT 60 MILES FROM ALEXANDRIA, NEAR THE BRITISH COMMONWEALTH CEMETERY.
