ON THE ANNIVERSARY OF AMERICAN INDEPENDENCE GENERAL CLARK RETURNED TO NETTUNO NR ROME THE SITE OF A MAJOR BATTLE AND NOW A MILITARY CEREMONY IN COMPANY WITH SOME 150 VETERANS OF THE AMERICAN FIFTH ARMY TO PAY HIS LAST TRIBUTES. CLARK, 79, WAS COMMANDER IN CHIEF OF THE ALLIED FORCES AT A NEWS CONFERENCE YESTY GENERAL CLARK SAID THAT THE POWER OF AMERICA TO RECOVER FROM THE WOUNDS OF VIETNAM SHOULD NOT BE underestimated, WHILST IN ITALY GENERAL CLARK HAS HELD MEETINGS WITH PRESIDENT LEONE AND THE POPE AS WELL AS MAKING A TELEVISION PROGRAMME ABOUT THE ALLIED INVASION.
