    THE CHAIRMAN OF GHANA'S RULING NATIONAL LIBERATION COUNCIL LIEUTENANT-GENERAL JOSEPH ANKRAH INAUGURATED THE GHANA SENIOR CIVIL SERVICE ASSOCIATION AT THE STATE HOUSE IN ACCRA ON THURSDAY (30 MAY).

    ADDRESSING MEMBERS OF THE ASSOCIATION HE SAID THE OCCASION MARKED THE BEGINNING OF AN IMPORTANT ERA IN THE HISTORY OF THE GHANA CIVIL SERVICE WHICH, HE ADDED, WAS STILL ONE OF THE BEST IN AFRICA.

    GENERAL ANKRAH WAS WELCOMED ON ARRIVAL BY THE INTERIM CHAIRMAN OF THE ASSOCIATION, MR. D.A. ACQUAH, WHO IS THE DEPUTY DIRECTOR OF SOCIAL WELFARE AND COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT. OTHER MEMBERS OF THE INTERIM COUNCIL OF THE ASSOCIATION WERE ALSO INTRODUCED TO THE GENERAL.

    THE CEREMONY WHICH WAS HELD IN THE BANQUET HALL OF STATE HOUSE WAS ATTENDED BY OVER 500 SENIOR CIVIL SERVANTS FROM ALL OVER THE COUNTRY.

    THEY HEARD GENERAL ANKRAH SAY THAT SOME OF THEM WOULD SOON BE ENTRUSTED WITH GREATER ADMINISTRATIVE AND EXECUTIVE RESPONSIBILITIES IN THE REGIONS. THERE HE SAID THEY WOULD BE REQUIRED TO MAKE AND CARRY OUT IMPORTANT DECISIONS WHICH THEY MUST DO, HOWEVER UNPOPULAR, WITH INTEGRITY, IMPARTIALITY AND PATRIOTISM.

    EARLIER, MAKING AN INTRODUCTORY SPEECH, MR. ACQUAH, THANKED GENERAL ANKRAH FOR ACCEPTING THE INVITATION TO INAUGURATE THE ASSOCIATION DESPITE HIS MANY IMPORTANT DUTIES.
