  • Description

Rallies in the cities of Taipei and Taichung on Wednesday (25 October) marked Taiwan's "Retrocession Day", celebrating the end of Japanese rule 27 years ago.

Retrocession means the act of ceding territory back.

On 25 October, 1945, Taiwan again became a province of China after fifty years of Japanese domination. Four years later, Generalissimo Chiang Kai-shek established his government on the island.

In a message road at Wednesday's rallies, he called for greater national unity in Taiwan's struggle against Communism.
