  • Description

ONE OF FORTY DISABLED NORTH VIETNAMESE SOLDIERS BEING HELD IN A PRISON CAMP IN BIEN HOA WAS INTERVIEWED YESTERDAY (THURSDAY) BY VISNEWS.

IN THE INTERVIEW THE PRISONER WAS ASKED WHEN HE ARRIVED IN THE A AREA, AND HE REPLIED, JUNE, 1966. HE WAS ASKED HOW HE CAME AND SAID THAT HE HAD TRAVELLED THROUGH FOREST TRAILS TO THE NORTH AND SOUTH VIETNAM. WHEN ASKED WHY HE HAD GONE TO SOUTH VIETNAM, HE SAID THAT HE HAD COME TO FIGHT THE AMERICANS.

THE PRISONERS AT THE CAMP, WHICH IS ABOUT 20 MILES (32 KMS.) FROM SAIGON HAVE LOST LIMBS AND MANY ARE ON CRUTCHES. SOME OF THE MEN SPEND THEIR TIME BY PLAYING VARIOUS GAMES, SUCH AS CHECKERS, WHILE OTHERS DO DELICATE NEEDLEWORK.

THE SOUTH VIETNAMESE GOVERNMENT HAS OFFERED TO REPATRIATE THE MEN TO NORTH VIETNAM, BUT HANOI REFUSES TO ACKNOWLEDGE THAT THEY ARE IN SOUTH VIETNAM.

NEXT SATURDAY (30 NOVEMBER), 140 VIET CONG PRISONERS, NINETY OF WHOM ARE BEING HELD IN SAIGON, WILL BE RELEASED IN VARIOUS PARTS OF SOUTH VIETNAM. TEN OF THE VIET CONG ARE WOMEN. ALL OF THE VIET CONG ARE SOUTH VIETNAMESE AND, HAVING BEEN GUARANTEED BY THEIR RELATIVES, WILL BE ALLOWED TO THEIR HOMES.
