Background: Flood waters rise again at ill-fated Frejus during heavy seasonal rains March 16. The rains sweeping most of South France swelled the River Reyran in the Frejus Valley where 422 persons perished December last year. Most temporary dykes withstood the pressure of the rising waters but at one point the Frejus main road was underwater slowing traffic. Flood waters also endangered the Frejus main rail line.
Tbe main threat of flooding was along coastal dykes protecting the holiday beach with its shops and chalets and the nearby sea-side Frejus airport.
