    The Chinese leader Hua Guofeng has been visiting British factories in the industrial Midlands area of the country, and Wednesday (31 October) he met for the first time British workers on the factory floor. He rode in a high speed train, and inspected the Rolls Royce aero engine factory in Derby. But before leaving London he visited the tomb of Communist Philosopher Karl Marx.

    SYNOPSIS: Karl Marx is buried in London's Highgate cemetery. Chairman hua had visited Marx's birthplace in West Germany during his visit there a week earlier.

    The Chinese leader laid a wreath of red roses on the tomb. China still honours Marx s a political guide, ut over the years has developed its own political systems. Karl Marx died in 1983.

    Mr Hua's wreath carried the message, 'from Chairman Hua Guofeng of the Chinese communist Party'. As he was leaving the cemetery, he had his first encounter with British trade unionists. Members of the Public Employees' Union met him to say they disapproved of the way he supported the Conservative Prime Minister Mrs Margaret Thacher.

    In a speech Mr Hua had praised Mrs Thatcher for opposing Soviet military development.
