    THE ANNUAL CONFERENCE OF THE INTERNATIONAL UNION AGAINST TUBERCULOSIS CLOSED IN ABIDJAN YESTERDAY (TUESDAY).

    DELEGATES FROM THIRTY-ONE NATIONS HAVE BEEN ATTENDING THE MEETING, WHICH OPENED ON FRIDAY.

    MALI, GHANA, UPPER VOLTA, NIGER, DAHOMEY AND IVORY COAST ARE MEMBERS OF THE UNION. TOGO, GAMBIA, SIERRA LEONE AND LIBERIA WERE REPRESENTED AT THE CONFERENCE BY OBSERVERS.

    THE UNION IS A PRIVATE ORGANISATION COMPRISED OF NATIONAL ORGANISATIONS WORKING TO COMBAT TUBERCULOSIS.

    AMONG THE ITEMS DISCUSSED DURING THE MEETING WERE THE NEED FOR MEDICAL OFFICERS, AND THE NECESSITY OF MORE FOREIGN EXCHANGE TO MEET THE COAST OF MEDICINES AND VACCINES.

    IT IS THE FIRST TIME THE INTERNATIONAL UNION AGAINST TUBERCULOSIS HAS MET OUTSIDE ITS HEADQUARTERS IN PARIS.

    IMMEDIATELY FOLLOWING THIS MEETING A CONFERENCE OF WEST AFRICAN ASSOCIATIONS AGAINST THE DISEASE WAS SCHEDULED TO CONVENE.

    ON MONDAY, DELEGATES TO THE CONFERENCE ATTENDED THE OFFICIAL POPENING OF ??? ANTI-TUBERCULOSIS CENTRE AT KOUMASSI, OUTSIDE ABIDJAN. IT WAS OPENED BY THE IVORY COAST MINISTER OF PUBLIC HEALTH, MR. BLAISE N'DIA KOFFI.
