SYNOPSIS: Earls Court in London, where the 12th International Caravan and Camping Show opened its doors on Wednesday. At least 100 new models have been announced and unveiled at the Show....and as usual they came in all shapes and sizes.
The camping and caravan industries in Britain and the continent have mushroomed sharply during the past two years in particular. The National Caravan Council has estimated that, in Britain alone, six million people took holidays in either a touring or static caravan during 1970.
Many of the caravans were mounted on revolving turntables.
This is the Autohome. Although compact in size, it has plenty of room. An upstairs bedroom for children over the cab, leaves the owner ample room for a double bed, and walkabout area for dressing, cooking, and washing up. Its being made in Britain and West Germany.
More than 300 caravans, trailers, and motor caravans are displayed at the Show.
A highlight this year has been the Acklam '72, one of several luxury holiday residences on show. This twin unit measures 36 feet by 19 feet, has either two or three bedrooms, and features optional central heating. The touch of luxury is also provided by the furnishings which include carpets and curtains. The spacious kitchen includes refrigerator and cooker, and the living area a television set. This holiday retreat is available for a mere GBP3,600.
The Camping and Caravanning Show will remain open until the end of next week.
