Background: Prince Souvanna Phouma, former Prime Minister of Laos, flew into Cairo Mar 23 for a day of talks with President Nasser of the United Arab Republic. He was greeted at the airport by Dr. Mahmoud Fawzi, the U.A.R. Foreign Minister.
After a brief conversation in the airport lounge, Prince Souvanna Phouma and Dr. Fawzi flew on to Alexandria where President Nasser is spending a few days holiday. He was expected to renew his request that the United Arab Republic support his scheme for reconvening the international control commission for Laos.
The Prince - now resident in Cambodia - flew in from Delhi where he had talks with Prime Minister Nehru and Mr. Averell Harriman, the United States "roving Ambassador". He arrived in Paris Mar 24 seeking talks with President De Gaulle, and is expected to fly on to London and Washington.
