  • Description

The Prime Minister of Guinea, Dr. Lansana Beavogui, arrived in Accre on Monday (4 October) for talks with Ghanian leaders.

SYNOPSIS: High on the list was a meeting with the Ghanian Head of State, General Ignatius Acheampong, who welcomed Dr. Beavogui to his office in Accra.

The Ghanaian Commissioner of Information, Brigadier R.E.A. Kotei, was also present at the meeting. Dr. Beavogui told newsmen on his arrival that he would discuss with General Acheampong matters "of African interest". Later, at Independence Arch Hall, a luncheon hosted by Brigadier Kotei was held to honour Dr. Beavogui. Brigadier Kotei was deputising for the Ghanian Commissioner for Foreign Affairs.

Brigadier Kotei told the luncheon it was hoped that Ghanian-Guinean relations would serve "as a shining example of the determination of the peoples of Africa to stand firm against imperialism and colonialism". Dr. Beavogui told the luncheon that freedom was not bought, and was never given away freely by colonial masters, but had to be fought for "with sweat and blood". Dr. Beavogui then proposed a toast to his hosts.
