    GENERAL GEORGE GRIVAS, FORMER LEADER OF THE GREEK-CYPRIOT EOKA MOVEMENT, FLEW INTO ATHENS YESTERDAY (WEDNESDAY) FOR TALKS WITH THE PRIME MINISTER, MR. GEORGE PAPANDREOU.

    SHORTLY AFTER HIS ARRIVAL FROM NICOSIA, GENERAL GRIVAS DROVE TO THE LUNCHEON MEETING WITH THE GREEK LEADER. ALSO PRESENT WERE MR. STAVROS KOSTOPOULOS, THE FOREIGN MINISTER, AND MR. PETROS GAROUPHALIAS, THE MINISTER OF DEFENCE.

    NO STATEMENT WAS ISSUED AFTER THE TALKS, BUT IT WAS UNDERSTOOD THAT GENERAL GRIVAS HAD DISCUSSED THE CYPRUS SITUATION WITH THE GREEK MINISTERS. GENERAL GRIVAS IS STAYING IN ATHENS FOR TWO OR THREE DAYS. HIS VISIT WAS SAID TO BE "PRIVATE".

    GENERAL GRIVAS WENT TO LIVE IN GREECE AFTER THE LONDON AND ZURICH AGREEMENTS OF 1959, UNDER WHICH CYPRUS BECAME INDEPENDENT, BUT RETURNED SECRETLY TO CYPRUS LAST MONTH.
