    DESPITE A 100-DEGREE TEMPERATURE, TENS OF THOUSANDS OF YUGOSLAVS TURNED OUT IN BELGRADE YESTERDAY (TUESDAY) TO WELCOME MR KHRUSHCHEV, THE SOVIET PRIME MINISTER, AT THE BEGINNING OF A 15 DAY VISIT TO YUGOSLAVIA. THE SOVIET LEADER WAS GIVEN A 200-MAN MILITARY GUARD OF HONOUR AND LEADER WAS GIVEN A 200-MAN MILITARY GUARD OF HONOUR AND A 42-GUN SALUTE ON HIS ARRIVAL AT THE AIRPORT - AND A KISS AND EMBRACE FROM THE YUGOSLAV PRESIDENT, MARSHAL TITO. ALSO AT THE AIRPORT TO GREET MR KHRUSHCHEV AND HIS WIFE WAS THE PRESIDENT'S WIFE, MADAME TITO.

    AFTER THE AIRPORT FORMALITIES AND A SPEECH BY MR KHRUSHCHEV IN WHICH HE EXPRESSED CONFIDENCE THAT HIS VISIT WOULD FURTHER STRENGTHEN FRIENDSHIP AND CO-OPERATION, THE TWO LEADERS DROVE INTO BELGRADE IN THE PRESIDENT'S OPEN BLACK ROLLS ROYCE CAR.

    LATER MR KHRUSHCHEV LAID A WREATH ON THE TOMB OF YUGOSLAVIA'S UNKNOWN SOLDIER AT MOUNT AVALA, ABOUT 12 MILES FROM THE CAPITAL. HE PLACED THE WREATH AND LEFT A BRIEF MESSAGE: "HAIL TO THE UNKNOWN HERO - SYMBOL OF THE COURAGEOUS BATTLE OF THE YUGOSLAV PEOPLE FOR THE FREEDOM AND INDEPENDENCE OF THEIR HOMELAND."
    THE SOVIET LEADER FACES AN EXHAUSTING SCHEDULE DURING HIS VISIT THAT WILL TAKE HIM ACROSS 1,500 MILES.
