    A THAI BORDER POLICE PATROL CLAIMS TO HAVE DISCOVERED A SECRET COMMUNIST GUERILLA CAMP DEEP IN THE JUNGLE OF BETONG, ON THE THAI-MALAYSIAN BORDER, AFTER A FIERCE FOUR-HOUR BATTLE IN WHICH THEY DROVE OUT THE GUERILLAS, THE CAMP IS NOT FAR FROM WHERE TEN MEMBERS OF A 15-MAN THAI-MALAYSIAN SECURITY PATROL WERE AMBUSHED AND KILLED LAST AUGUST.

    THE 26-MAN THAI POLICE PATROL ARE SAID TO HAVE FOUND THE CAMP ON THE 21ST OF JANUARY. THEY ARE REPORTED TO HAVE UNCOVERED A LONG TRENCH-TRAP CONTAINING IRON SPIKES AND HEAVILY CAMOUFLAGED WITH FOLIAGE, DESIGNED FOR POLICE APPROACHING THE CAMP. THIS IS SAID TO HAVE CONTAINED 36 HUTS SITUATED ON A TWO-ACRE SITE.

    EFFIGIES OF TUNKU ABDUL RAHMAN AND MR. HAROLD WILSON FOUND IN THE CAMP ARE SAID TO HAVE BEEN USED FOR BAYONET PRACTICE. THE POLICE SAY IT WAS EVIDENT THAT THE CAMP, CAPABLE OF ACCOMMODATING 200 PEOPLE, HAD BEEN ALSO HOUSING THE WIVES AND CHILDREN OF THE GUERILLAS. IT'S CLAIMED TO BE THE BIGGEST GUERILLA CAMP FOUND SO FAR.
