    Four Asians and agriculture college in the Philippines on Wednesday received the Roman Magsaysay awards - Asia's version of the Nobel prizes - for their outstanding achievements.

    The awards were issued annually with a cash prize of 10,000 US dollars and a gold medal in memory of the late President Magsaysay who died in an air crash in 1957.

    The awardees were: -
    Mr. Benjamin Galstaun of Indonesia, Government service, for guiding a new generation of Indonesian towards understanding and valuing animals and nature in Asia's moist tropics.

    Dr. Fe del Mundo of the Philippines was recognised for her life-long dedication as physician extraordinary to needy Filipino children.

    Mrs. Ela R. Bhatt of India, community leadership, for organising the most depressed work force of self-employed women.

    Mr. Mahesh C. Regmi of Nepal, journalism, for enabling his people to discover their origins and delineating national options.

    The college of Agriculture of the University of the Philippines for modernising Southeast Asian agriculture.
