    THE MILITARY CEREMONY MARKING HIS RETIREMENT TOOK PLACE AT CHIPO RI, ON THE FRONT LINE 40 MILES NORTH OF SEOUL WHERE GENERAL PARK SAW ACTIVE SERVICE DURING THE KOREAN WAR.ADDRESSING OFFICIALS, FOREIGN REPRESENTATIVES, AND THE ASSEMBLED TROOPS, GENERAL PARK DEFENDED THE COUP OF 1961.ALTHOUGH IT HAD BEEN "WITH DEEP SORROW" THAT HE HAD BROUGHT TROOPS INTO SEOUL, IT COULD NEVER HAPPEN AGAIN.HE ADDED: "I MUST BECOME CIVILIAN IN ORDER TO FURTHER THE IDEALS OF THE REVOLUTION." HE THEN TOOK THE SALUTE AT A MARCH-PAST OF INFANTRY AND ARMOURED UNITS.

    GENERAL PARK YESTERDAY (SATURDAY) ACCEPTED NOMINATION BY THE DEMOCRATIC REPUBLICAN PARTY AS PRESIDENTIAL CANDIDATE.DESPITE OPPOSITION DEMANDS, GENERAL PARK IS SAID TO BE PLANNING TO REMAIN AS HEAD OF THE RULING MILITARY JUNTA UNTIL A NEW GOVERNMENT IS FORMED.
