    THE EXHIBITION OF ART, ORGANISED BY THE FRENCH AND UPPER VOLTA LITERARY FROM ARTISTS WITH NO FORMAL TRAINING.

    THE PAINTING PRIZE WAS WON BY A 19-YEAR-OLD MAN AND THE WORKS WERE JUDGED ON THEIR FUNCTIONAL OR RELIGIOUS SIGNIFICANCE. ALTHOUGH THE SUBJECTS DEALT WITH WERE TRADITIONAL THE TECHNIQUES USED BY THE ARTISTS INCLUDED MODERN DEVELOPMENTS. THE ART EXHIBITION WAS HELD AT THE SAME TIME AS A GENERAL CULTURAL PROGRAMME WHICH INCLUDED DANCING, TRADITIONAL MUSIC, THEATRE AND LITERATURE.
