Last weekend Westberlin had an invasion of Giants. The Berlin "Club der langen Menschen" (club of tall people) held an European Meeting 500 "Giants" from 5 European countries came to discuss their problems. Membership to these clubs is granted to females over six feet tall and males over six feet four inches tall. The tallest member of one of the German clubs is 2 meters 39 centimetres (app 8 feet) tall. He did not come to Berlin. The meeting here discussed the problems involving these physical length. Some of the members were kind enough to explain the problems. They are nearly everywhere unable to buy ready made clothing and shows, they are knocking their heads at shops awnings, etc. They say the only things they can buy ready made are boot-laces, handkerchiefs, and ties. No beds are made to fit them. I went on a shopping spree with four of them at Westberlin's main shopping street the Kurfuerstendamm, so they could show their problems. They were two men and two women. One of the men was a Swedish member (6'8''), a German (6'6'') and two girls (195 meters - 6'6'' and 185 meters - 6'2''). One of the girls wanted to buy a fur jacket, to small, and the smaller girl went to buy a pair of shoes, she was lucky, she got one pair her size. The taller girl had feet German size number 48 - U.S.& UK size 12 1/2. She said she only knows of one shop in Germany, in Stuttgart, which stocks ladies shoes this size. The chairman of the Berlin club said the worst countries to buy oversize clothing in Europe is Austria as he had heard from his members.
