BLAKEY: "Australia won the toss and was soon in trouble as Cosier went for a quick single. Willis looked hostile in conditions that favoured fat bowling. Australia lost more wickets chiefly when Botham joined the attack. Laughlin struck out with more desperation than skill. Australia had made only a hundred and sixteen when Old finished off the innings in just four hours. But England began as badly as Australia when Gooch fell to the new bowler, Hogg. Derek Randall took up the challenge with a series of fours and one six. Hogg got Boycott's wicket for the third time of the tour so far."
