  • Description

Five Cuban exiles were nominated on Saturday by representatives of Cuban refugees around the world as candidates to form a new junta to map "war plans" against Premier Fidel Castro.

The assembly, which met to name the five-man junta, was organised by the former Cuban rum magnate, Jose M. Bosch, an early supporter of Dr. Castro who later went into exile. The assembly met at the new world headquarters of Bosh's Bacardi company in Miami.

Bosch paid for the two-day assembly and the worldwide mail referendum among some 73,000 "heads of families in 46 countries who will vote in the junta nominations. Ballets went out on Sunday.

At the nine-hour meeting, the 51 representatives named to the junta: Eneido Oliva, second in command of the abortive 1961 Bay of Pigs invasion, who is now in the U.S. Army; lawyer Ernesto Freyre, who helped arrange the ransom of the Bay of Pigs invaders who were captured; Vicente Rubiera, Secretary-General of the Telephone Workers Union under the Batista regime; and Aurelio Fernandez Diaz, leader of the exiled Certified Public Accountants Association. The identify of the fifth man is being withheld pending his formal acceptance of nomination.

Oliva will be in charge of the "war plans" and Bosch has pledged a "substantial donation" to the new campaign.
