  • Description

The West Germany chancellor Kurt Kiesinger on Tuesday warned that the extreme right-wing National Democrats must not be allowed to enter parliament in next September's federal elections.

He told the election congress of his Christian Democratic party in Essen that West Germany would be capable of dealing with the right-wing extremists but the outside world would see their entry to parliament in the light of the country's past.

Attempts had been made to ban the party Dr. Kiesinger added but it was better that "we take them on in open battle and show where the proper national esteem is to be found."
The 600 delegates attending the one-day congress met to vote on a 30-point election platform which declares that the aim of the Christian Democratic government would be to resolve the division of Germany and Europe. It will offer talks with the East German government while firmly refusing to recognise the Communist regime as a second German state.

It says the European common market should be completed and urges the adoption of common European policies on economic and monetary issues, science and research, development aid, and social conditions over the next few years.
