    SOME 4,500 CENCUS ENUMERATORS ARE CURRENTLY ENGAGED IN THE FORMIDABLE TASK OF COUNTING RHODESIA'S AFRICAN POPULATION. THE OPERATION IS EXPECTED TO TAKE AT LEAST THREE WEEKS AND IS THE FINAL PHASE IN THE POPULATION CENCUS WHICH BEGAN A MONTH AGO WHEN FORMS WERE COMPLETED BY EUROPEANS, ASIANS AND OTHER NON-AFRICANS.

    THE SET LIST OF QUESTIONS INCLUDES AGE, DIALECT AND EMPLOYMENT. WOMEN HAVE TO ANSWER SPECIAL QUESTIONS ABOUT THE CHILDREN THEY HAVE GIVEN BIRTH TO WHETHER OF NOT THE CHILDREN ARE STILL ALIVE. THIS QUESTIONED IS DESIGNED TO ASSESS BOTH THE INFANT MORTALITY RATE AND THE NATURAL INCREASE IN THE POPULATION.

    IN RURAL AREAS THE CENCUS IS BEING CARRIED OUT BY LOCAL SCHOOL TEACHERS. TEACHERS HAVE BEEN SPECIALLY ASSIGNED TO THE WORK BECAUSE THEY UNDERSTAND THE IMPORTANCE OF THE CENCUS AND THEY KNOWN TRUSTED IN THEIR OWN DISTRICTS.
