  • Description

A major Australian Trade Show opened in Dubai's International Airport at the weekend.

According to Australian Trade Commissioner, Graham Rice, Dubai was chosen as the site for the Exhibition because it is a main Persian Gulf trading centre and has excellent communications. The Trade Commission expects a fantastic 40% increase in Australian exports in the next twelve months. At present Australian exports to the Gulf are running at about 2.5 million pounds sterling a year.

Opening the Trade Show was Dubai's ruler - Sheikh Rasid Bin Said At Maktum. After outing the ceremonial tape the Sheikh had a look around the Exhibition. Among the many exhibits on show were a fleet of the latest in leisure speed boats, an Allied Mills section and a collection of Australian toys which included a rocking Kangaroo.

SYNOPSIS: Dubai's International Airport building with its dominating "coup-proof" Control Tower, was the setting for a high pressure sales drive this weekend - the Australian Trade Show.

Australia's Trade Commissioner, Graham Rice, handed the ceremonial scissors to Dubai's ruler, Sheikh Rashid bin Said Al Maktum, who cut the ceremonial tape and officially opened the show. The Sheikh was then invited to view the latest products that Australian industry has to offer.

According to the Australian Trade Commission, Dubai was chosen as the site for the exhibition because of its excellent communications. Dubai is also a major Persian Gulf trading centre.

The Australians exhibited a wide variety of powerful high speed leisure craft, but they will rely on Dubai's large fleet of dhows to transport their products to remote ports on the Persian Gulf, and across to the Iranian coast.

The Australian Trade Commission forecast an incredible forty per cent increase in Australian exports to the Persian Gulf area during the next twelve months. Current Australian exports are running at over two million pounds sterling yearly. For the young at heart, or for the parents who want something different for their children, the toy section had a lot to offer, including a rocking kangaroo.
