  • Description

The kibbutz of Lahome Haguetot in Galilee - filmed Dec 7 - is on of many Israeli pioneer settlement where, among former partisans and inmates of German concentration camps, the notorious Adolf Eichmann's memoirs, recently published by America's "Life" magazine, came as a slap in the face.

In this particular settlement - not far from one of the former British fortresses where Eichmann is thought to be held in secrecy until his trial early next March - the memory of Jewish suffering at the hands of Hitler's henchmen is still acute in people's minds.

A new generation is cheerfully playing in the streets - forgetful of a gruesome past - but the local Martyr's Museum vividly tells the story of those millions who were dragged from ghetto to ghetto. A model of the Treblanka concentration camp recaptures the scene of 700,00 murders, and a file marked "Eichmann" holds some of the evidence that will be brought against the man who, during his trial, will be kept in a bullet-proof cage.
