    CHIEF OF THE CHINESE NATIONALIST AIRFORCE, GENERAL CHIA SHANG, PINNED THE RANK ON 25-YEARS-OLD PILOT LUI, A NATIVE OF TIENTUNG, KWANGSI, AND PRESENTED HIM WITH A GOLD BRICK OF 1,000 oz,. THE OFFER MADE BY THE TAIWAN CHINA GOVERNMENT TO A PILOT BRINGING A MIG FROM THE CHINESE PEOPLE'S REPUBLIC.

    AT THE CEREMONY, TWO OTHER FORMER CHINESE PEOPLE'S REPUBLIC PILOTS, SHAO HSI YEN AND KAO YU TSUNG WERE ALSO COMMISSIONED AS FIRST AND SECOND LIEUTENANT. THEY TOOK THEIR PLANE TO SOUTH KOREA LAST SEPTEMBER. THEY WERE LATER SENT TO TAIWAN CHINA, WHERE EACH RECEIVED AN AWARD OF 500 oz. OF GOLD.

    THE MIG-15 PLANE WHICH PILOT LIU BROUGHT WAS THE FIRST TO HAVE LANDED IN TAIWAN CHINA INTACT. THE MIG-15, ON DISPLAY AT TAOYUAN AIRBASE WAS IN EXCELLENT CONDITION. THE CHINESE CHARACTERS ON THE PLANE PROCLAIM "FLOWER OF HARD WORK". THE SLEEK, FULLY ARMED MIG-15 IS AN EARLIER VERSION OF THE SOVIET BUILT JET FIGHTERS.
