    MORE THAN 800 BRITONS GAVE SENIOR NORTH VIETNAMESE PEACE NEGOTIATORS A TUMULTUOUS WELCOME AT A MEETING IN BOULOGNE TODAY (SUNDAY). THE BRITISH, INCLUDING LABOUR MEMBERS OF PARLIAMENT AND TRADE UNION LEADERS, HAD SAILED FROM FOLKESTONE ON A SPECIAL "PEACE BOAT".

    THE TRIP TO MEET NORTH VIETNAMESE DELEGATES TO THE PARIS PEACE TALKS WAS ORGANISED BY THE BRITISH COUNCIL FOR PEACE IN VIETNAM. IT WAS THE FIRST TIME THAT BRITISH PEACE WORKERS HAD MET THE NORTH VIETNAMESE.

    THE NORTH VIETNAMESE WERE LED BY COLONEL HA VAN LAU, HANOI'S NUMBER TWO AT THE PARIS TALKS. HE WAS ACCOMPANIED BY TRANG CONG TUONG, ATTORNEY-GENERAL OF NORTH VIETNAM, AND NGUYAN MINH VY, A DEPUTY OF NORTH VIETNAM'S NATIONAL ASSEMBLY.

    COLONEL VAN LAU WAS CHEERED WILDLY BY BRITISH AND FRENCH PEACE WORKERS IN BOULOGNE'S LABOUR EXCHANGE WHEN HE SAID - "VIETNAM BELONGS TO THE VIETNAMESE".

    OTHER SPEAKERS INCLUDED MR. CLIVE JENKINS, LEADER OF THE BRITISH TECHNICIANS' UNION, AND M. CHARLES FOURNIAU, A FRENCH SPOKESMAN FOR PEACE IN VIETNAM.
