    MOLLOY COVERED THE DISTANCE OF APPROXIMATELY 112 MILES (ABOUT 180 KILOMETRES) IN 1 HOUR 16.31 SECONDS. THE RACE WAS FOR A TROPHY AND 60 POUNDS STERLING. AMONG THE ENTRANTS WAS BRITAIN'S PHIL READ, WHO WON IN 1964 AND 1965. RAIN FELL HEAVILY DURING THE RACE AND TRACK CONDITIONS FORCED A NUMBER OF RIDERS TO RETIRE BEFORE THE END.
