TRANSCRIPT: SEQ 2: MOGONGO: "Sir, during the colonial era, the French tried to water down African nationalism by trying to create French (indistinct). The Portuguese too tried to do the same. But all these colonial masters failed because the winds of change know no colour or colonial territory. Sir, this is what the world is witnessing today as far as South Africa is concerned. The deplorable practice of apartheid is even more than that in that while it accounts for untold misery for the people of South Africa, it is sometimes regarded as a (Indistinct). Mr. Chairman, may I reiterate the position of my delegation here. Swaziland does not and will never condone the concept of apartheid. That is why we strongly feel that all those political prisoners in South Africa are victims of the scourge of racial supremacy and that they deserve their freedom. Mr. Chairman, I thank you."

Background: At the United Nations General Assembly in New York, the Swaziland delegate, spoke of the colonial era and blamed the French for trying to water down African nationality. He said that the Portuguese had tried to do the same.

The delegate said they failed because "the winds of change know no colour or colonial territory".
