    Dr Nosratollah Kasemi, General Secretary of the Mellioun (Nationalist) Party led by Persian Premier Iqbal, accused the Opposition People's Party and the Independents of being capable incapable of concern for the Persian people's welfare. He was making a campaign speech in Teheran Aug 7 on behalf of his party's 200 candidates in the general elections now being held over a five-day period.

    The Opposition, consisting of Assadollah Alam and his Mardom or People's Party, are putting up an equal number of candidates. A third group consists of six ex-parliamentations calling themselves Independents, who, mainly, disapprove of the full powers assumed by the Shah. Their leader is Dr Ali Amini, who was Finance Minister under ex-Premier Mossadegh.

    Persia's Parliament - the Majlis - is composed of 200 Deputies representing a total population of 20 million. It is neglected for four years. Two years ago, on the Shah's orders, two Parties - the Mellioun and the Mardom - were created. Programmes of these two Parties, is effectively the same, both are active supporters of the regime.

    Latest polling results indicate that so far the Nationalist Party has won 59 seats, the Opposition Party; 21 seats, and Independent; one.
