Background: Massachusette's Senator John Kennedy and Minnesota's Senator Hubert Humphreys, rounded off their campaign - Apr 4 - in the Wisconsin State Primary of the American Presidential nomination elections. Both candidates wanted a decisive win to back their claims for Democratic Party nomination at the party convention later this year.

Results later showed that Wisconsin were behind Senator Kennedy. He polled 389,417 votes against Senator Humphreys 318, 890. Vice-President Nixon - the Republican Party's lone nominee - trailed third with a vote of 305,375.

Senator Kennedy is the only Roman Catholic contender fighting for residency of the White House. There has never been a catholic President in the United States.

In an eve-of-poll speech Senator Kennedy told 1,000 students of Wisconsin University that in the 1960's Americans would live off the past, but bring present day innovations up to date.

Senator Humphreys said in his final address to the state, that he was impressed by the reactions of the rural areas he visited.

In early March this year, Senator Kennedy won the New Hampshire Primary, and will contest the next Primary - West Virginia - on May 10.
