    TRANSCRIPT

NEWSMAN: "MISS TODD DO YOU FEEL THAT YOU THAT YOU WILL BE ALLOWED TO OPERATE AND WORK FREELY HERE OR DO YOU THINK YOU WILL BE RESTRICTED LIKE YOUR FATHER HAS BEEN?"

MISS TODD: "I THINK THAT NO OPPONENTS OF MR SMITH ARE ALLOWED TO OPERATE AND WORK FREELY."

NEWSMAN: "HAVE YOU BEEN GIVEN ANY WARNING OF ANY KIND?"

    MISS TODD: "NO I HAVEN'T."

NEWSMAN: "WHAT DO YOU ACTUALLY HOPE TO DO?"

MISS TODD: "MYSELF, I HOPE TO GO HOME AND SEE MY FATHER."

NEWSMAN: "NO, YOU MENTIONED EARLIER THAT YOU HOPED TO HELP THE UNPROTECTED AFRICANS?"

MISS TODD: "OH, I SEE YES."

NEWSMAN: "NOW WHAT FORM IS THAT HELP GOING TO TAKE?"

MISS TODD: "WELL, THE ONLY WAY THAT I THINK THAT BRITAIN CAN HELP IS TO GIVE SIR HUMPHREY GIBBS THE POWER TO GOVERN, AND THE POWER TO PROTECT, AND THE ONLY WAY THAT SHE CAN GIVE HIM THAT POWER IS TO SEND IN TROOPS."

NEWSMAN: "HOW OLD ARE YOU, MISS TODD?"

    MISS TODD: "TWENTY-TWO."

NEWSMAN: "DO YOU CONSIDER YOURSELF SUFFICIENTLY MATURE TO SHOULDER THE PROBLEMS OF RHODESIA?"

MISS TODD: "NO, I AM NOT SHOULDERING THE PROBLEMS OF RHODESIA, BUT I AM A RHODESIAN AND THEREFORE I AM INVOLVED."

NEWSMAN: "SOME PEOPLE THINK THAT YOUR VISIT MIGHT BE REGARDED AS INFLAMMATORY JUST NOW, AND UNHELPFUL, WOULD YOU AGREE WITH THIS?"

MISS TODD: "UNHELPFUL TO MR SMITH OR MR WILSON?"

NEWSMAN: "DON'T YOU THINK YOU WOULD BE MORE USE OUTSIDE THE COUNTRY?"

MISS TODD: "THIS IS WHAT PEOPLE HAVE SAID BUT I HAVE DONE ALL THAT I CAN IN CANADA, NEW YORK AND BRITAIN -- I CAN'T DO ANY MORE OUTSIDE THE COUNTRY. AND I THINK IT IS TIME FOR RHODESIANS TO COME HOME AND DEMONSTRATE THEIR OPPOSITION TO SMITH."

NEWSMAN: "DO YOU THINK YOUR VERY PRESENCE WILL INSPIRE AFRICANS TO TAKE FURTHER ACTION?"

MISS TODD: "I DOUBT IT. THEY HAVE INSPIRING LEADERS. THEY DON'T NEED ME."

NEWSMAN: "MISS TODD, YOU MENTIONED BRITISH RESPONSIBILITY. WHAT ACTION DO YOU THINK BRITAIN SHOULD TAKE?"

MISS TODD: "I THINK THAT BRITAIN SHOULD SEND IN WHITE COMMONWEALTH TROOPS, AND I AM SAYING WHITE BECAUSE EVERYONE FEARS RACIAL WAR SO MUCH. I THINK SHE COULD DO THIS AT THIS TIME WITHOUT BLOODSHED BECAUSE MR SMITH'S SECURITY FORCES SEEM TO BE SO PREOCCUPIED WITH MAINTAINING PEACE AND CALM AND CIVILISED STANDARDS THROUGHOUT THIS COUNTRY."
