A Canadian fact-finding mission led by M. Paul Gerin-Lajoie, visited the lakeside village of Ganvie?

  • Description

A Canadian fact-finding mission led by M. Paul Gerin-Lajoie, visited the lakeside village of Ganvie last week while on a three-day visit to Dahomey. The village, which is not far from the capital of Cotonou, is unique because it's built on stilts. The Canadians also visited the nearby town of Kandi, where they met a number of local government leaders.

During its stay in Dahomey, the Canadians met President Hubert Maga and other Government leaders.

As a result of the talks, Canada is to make an additional contribution of 125 million Francs CFA (about 178,000 Sterling) for an electricity project linking Togo and Dahomey, and 1,500 million Francs CFA (about two million Sterling) for education.

The Canadian delegation arrived in Dahomey from Dakar on February 1.
