    THE SOVIET UNION TODAY (FRIDAY) HAD A CLEAR VICTORY IN THE FREE PISTOL EVENT -- HIGHLIGHT OF THE SECOND DAY OF THE WORLD SHOOTING CHAMPIONSHIPS AT WIESBADEN, WEST GERMANY. MORE THAN 1,000 MARKSMEN FROM 52 COUNTRIES ARE TAKING PART IN THE TEN--DAY CHAMPIONSHIPS.

    THE RUSSIA WORLD CHAMPION, VLADIMIR STOLYPIN, TOOK THE INDIVIDUAL TITLE IN THE FREE PISTOL EVENT WITH 556 OUT OF A POSSIBLE 600 RINGS. AND STOLYPIN WAS ALSO A MEMBER OF THE SOVIET TEAM WHICH WENT ON TO TAKE THE TEAM COMPETITION BY BEATING SWITZERLAND. THE RUSSIANS -- STOLYPIN, KOSYCH, RASSKASOV AND UDATSHIN -- GAINED 2,203 RINGS AGAINST SWITZERLAND'S 2,186.

    STOLYPIN, WHO BECAME WORLD CHAMPION IN THE FREE PISTOL EVENT IN CAIRO IN 1962, AND ALSO HOLDS THE EUROPEAN TITLE (STOCKHOLM 1963), WON TODAY'S EVENT BY ONE RING FROM THE BULGARIAN MARKSMAN DENEFF, WHO SCORED 555 RINGS. THE NEXT THREE PLACES WERE OCCUPIED BY HROMADA (CZECHOSLOVAKIA), GARZIA (SPAIN) AND VITARBO (USA), WHO ALL SCORED 553. ANOTHER RUSSIAN, KOSYCH, WAS SIXTH WITH 552 RINGS. POLAND, CZECHOSLOVAKIA, USA AND GERMANY TOOK THE FOUR MINOR PLACINGS IN THE TEAM EVENT.

    OTHER EVENTS WHICH TOOK PLACE DURING THE SECOND DAY WERE OUTLINE TARGET SHOOTING, RAPID FIRE AT STATIC AND MOVING TARGETS, AND TRAP SHOOTING.
