Background: Expelled from their homeland during the early years after the second world war, Sudeten Germans in the Federal Republic (Western Germany), hold an annual rally at Stuttgart, the largest centre of these Sudeten refugees.

This year about 3000,000 Sudetens, East Prussians, Pomeranians, Silesians and expellees from southeastern Europe-----people whose homelands are in the control of Communist Governments---flocked to Stuttgart for the rally. Many of the visitors were dressed in their national costumes, adding splashes of colour to the solemnity of the gathering.

A Federal Government Minister, Dr. Seebohm, spoke to a crowd of about 80,000 people, many of whom were sitting in hangars on the field, trying to avoid the overpowering heat of the sun.

The National Expellee Association in West Germany organised this rally. They are also the official mouthpiece and 'governing' body of the refugees from German territory appropriated after the second world war. The aim of these organisations revolve around the desire to return to their homelands but not under Communist domination.
