SYNOPSIS: Bomb blasts in Buenos Aires on Tuesday night damaged two of the city's Jewish Synagogues.

One explosion in the grounds of the synagogue serving the Sephardic community blew a crater in the pavement and twisted the main gates off their mountings.

The blast blew out windows in surroundings buildings and also damaged an adjacent Jewish community health centre.

Several hours earlier, another bomb had damaged the outside of the main Synagogue in Buenos Aires. The explosion brought down masonry from the building's facade.

The bomb also brought down a metal canopy, but the interior of the building was not damaged.

Nobody was hurt in the explosions which happened in the early hours of the morning. Damage was estimated at seven thousand pounds.

Argentina's authorities could give no reason for the apparent outbreak of anti-Semitism. Police said they didn't know who set off the bombs. Argentina has about half a million Jews, most of whom live in Buenos Aires.
