The Seventh Asian Games in Iran on Sunday (15th September) sprang into life on its thirteenth day of competition with ten new Asian Games records being set by a wide variety of nationalities, while the politics-dogged Israeli team scored one of their few gold medals with a convincing victory in the Women's 100 Metre final.

The 22-year old mother of a six-month-old son, Israel's Mrs. Esther Rot, edged ahead of a strong field in the 100m dash to take her third gold medal of the games with a time of 11.9 seconds. She has to date been Israel's primary gold medal collector and by day's end the Israeli team, struggling against boycotts by The Peoples Republic of Chain, Kuwait, Pakistan and North Korea, had amassed five golds.

China's Ho Tsu-fen took a close second place in the event, with Keiko Yamada of Japan third and The Philippines' Amelita Alanes fourth.

Thai Army lieutenant Anal Ratanopol leapt off for a good start in the Men's 200 Metre dash to take the gold in a new Games record time of 21.09 seconds, erasing his old games record of 21.1 seconds he set in the 6th Games in 1970. By the end of the Games on Monday (16th September) the Thai hero had won three of his country's four golds.

India's powerful Sriram Singh fourth off a very strong last-minute challenge by Iran's Mohammed Reza Entezari to win the Men's 800 Metre event with a new Games record of 1:47.57.
