Israeli Ambassador to France, Mr Ben Nathan -- shown in this film -- signed the agreement for Israel, in which France agrees to return GBP20 million(sterling) advanced on the order, plus five years interest at seven per cent per annum.

Afterwards, Mr Nathan said Israel "would rather have had the Mirages". The jets were embargoed two days before the start of the June 1967 Arab-Israeli war.

SYNOPSIS: Paris on Tuesday... and an agreement between France and Israel, ending a five-year-old dispute over 50 Mirage jet fighters ordered by Israel before the start of the Arab-Israeli war in June 1967. Signing for Israel was its Ambassador to France, Mr Ben Nathan. In the agreement, France is to give Israel thirty million pounds sterling -- twenty million which Israel paid in part for the aircraft, and the balance interest for the five years in which France has held the money.

Mr Nathan said after signing the agreement that Israel would rather have had the aircraft -- which were embargoed by the late President de Gaulle two days before the war began. The agreement followed six months of delicate negotiating, and agency reports say it is believed France has pledged NOT to re-sell the aircraft to Arab countries opposing Israel. French officials said later that Israel would still not be able to buy spare parts for Mirages it already possessed.
