The Iranian Foreign Minister, Mr. Abbas Ali Khalat Bari, has been having talks in Cairo with members of the Egyptian Government. Mr. Bari arrived in the Egyptian capital on Sunday (9th September). He was greeted by the Egyptian Foreign Minister Dr. Hassan El Zayyat. Accompanied by his wife, Mr. Khalat Bari planned to spend four days in Cairo.
On Monday (10th September), the Iranian Foreign Minister and his Egyptian counterpart, Dr. Zayyat, got down to business. They had private talks at the Foreign Ministry in Cairo, and later conferred with representatives of both governments. The talks concerned the Middle East conflict, the outcome of the Non-Aligned Countries Conference held recently in Algiers, and the issues of oil and energy.
The two Foreign Minister also discussed their countries' roles in the forthcoming session of the United Nations General Assembly, and were expected to deal with improving relations between the two countries. Mr. Khalat Bari also had talks with Egyptian Vice-President, Mr. Hussein El Shafei and Dr. Mahmoud Fawzy, the Deputy Premier, Dr. Abdel Kader Hatem and Presidential advisor Mr. Hafez Ismail. Dr. Zayyat paid a visit to Iran last March and, at that time, held talks with Mr. Khalat Bari and Iranian Government officials.
