    PRESIDENT KENYATTA MADE A SPEECH FROM NAIROBI'S JAMHURI PARK BEFORE A CROWD OF THOUSANDS.

    A HIGHLIGHT OF THE DAY WAS THE "TROOPING OF THE COLOUR" AT THE KENYAN ARMY. THE ARMY BAND MARCHED IN TO THE GRASS ARENA OF THE STADIUM, FOLLOWED BY MEMBERS OF THE KENYA ARMY.

    THE CEREMONY BEGAN WHEN THE COLOURS WERE PRESENTED TO THE ARMY BY THE ESCORT. THE COLOURS WERE THEN PARADED BEFORE THE PRESIDENT AND CABINET, WHO WERE SEATED TOGETHER ON A DAIS.

    IN HIS SPEECH PRESIDENT KENYATTA PRAISED ZAMBIAN PRESIDENT KENNETH KAINGA FOR HIS MEDIATION AT ARUSHA, TANZANIA. LAST OCTOBER, IN TALKS LEADING TO AGREEMENT BETWEEN KENYA AND SOMALIA TO SETTLE THEIR FOUR-YEAR-OLD DISPUTE.

    HE DESCRIBED THE AGREEMENT AS A "MOST REMARKABLE ACHIEVEMENT".

    AFTER HE HAD MADE HIS SPEECH PRESIDENT KENYATTA WATCHED A DISPLAY OF TRADITIONAL MUSIC AND DANCING. COASTAL AND INLAND TRIBES, AS WELL AS THE LOCAL KIKUYO, JOINED IN THE DISPLAY..
