GANJIDOOST SAI: "There is a love and affection between Iranian Moslems and the Iraqi Moslem nation. And it is for their sake that our leader Ayatollah Khomeni does not want to give an order, otherwise, an order for him means an end to the murder regime. Even the recent violation by Iraq was unexpected and it was not based on the international values that we could respond to it very well, and so far we have been a lot of success in giving them a lesson how they should deal with a revolutionary country."

AL-GAILANI: "As regard of the present situation about mutual aggression on the border, along the border from the north to the mouth of the Arabian Gulf, of course, Iraq has no claims on any Iranian land. We have recaptured for (INDISTINCT) territory on the frontier and in the other (INDISTINCT) provinces. And we have stopped there. We could go further, but we stopped there, hoping that the Iranian regime will come to recognise the right of Iraq, because Iraq will never, never leave one inch of its territory. And we are determined to take a firm stand, and to repulse all these aggressive attempts of the chauvinistic, racial Persian regime in Iran."

Background: Both the Iranian and Iraqi ambassadors to Pakistan have said their countries could escalate hostilities along their common border, but neither country was prepared to do so. The Iranian Ambassador, Muhammad Ganjidoost Sai, and the Iraqi Ambassador, Ahmed Zafar Al-Gailani, gave their reactions to the continuing undeclared war between their countries in interviews on Tuesday and Wednesday (23 and 24 September). The Iranian Ambassador said his country would not be prepared to escalate the fighting because of the deep bond between Moslems in Iran and Iraq.

SYNOPSIS: The Iraqi envoy, Ahmed Zafar Al-Gailani, said Iraq had captured all the territories it wanted, and there was no reason to escalate the fighting.
