    MR. PANAYOTIS KANELLOPOULOS, LEADER OF GREECE'S NATIONAL RADICAL UNION PARTY, YESTERDAY (MONDAY) ACCEPTED A MANDATE FROM KING CONSTANTINE TO FORM A NEW GOVERNMENT.

    THE KING CALLED MR. KANELLOPOULOS TO THE PALACE IN ATHENS AFTER AN HOUR'S CONSULTATION WITH MR. IOANNIS PARASKEVOPOULOS, WHO RESIGNED AS PRIME MINISTER LAST THURSDAY (MARCH 30) AFTER A SPLIT IN THE PARTY COALITION SUPPORTING HIM IN PARLIAMENT.

    MR. KANELLOPOULOS TOLD NEWSMEN AFTER MEETING KING CONSTANTINE THAT HE'D BEEN GIVEN THE RIGHT TO DISSOLVE PARLIAMENT AND HOLD NEW ELECTIONS IF NECESSARY.

    THE 22 MEMBERS OF THE NEW RADICAL GOVERNMENT -- THE FIRST FOR THREE AND A HALF YEARS -- TOOK THE OATH OF OFFICE AT THE ROYAL PALACE IN ATHENS 90 MINUTES AFTER THEIR 64-YEAR-OLD LEADER HAD ACCEPTED THE MANDATE.

    MR. KANELLOPOULOS SAID HIS GOVERNMENT WOULD APPEAR IN PARLIAMENT WITHIN A WEEK OR SO TO SEEK A VOTE OF CONFIDENCE. HAVE THE ELECTORAL BILL APPROVED AND HOLD ELECTIONS AT THE END OF MAY.
