  • Description

Princess Margaret's engagement - announced so soon after the birth of the Royal baby - has been headline news in countries all over the world.

"Good Luck to Them", spread across the front page of a London paper, was typical of the way the Press hailed the event. In London and at Royal Lodge, Windsor, where Princess Margaret are sending the week-end, a flood of congratulatory and well-wishing messages has been received.

Royal Lodge, in Windsor Great Park, adjoins Windsor Castle, one of the Queen's residences. It stands not far from Eton where Mr. Armstrong-Jones was at school. The Lodge is being closely watched over by policemen guarding the young couple's privacy on the first week-end of their engagement. Princess Margaret's official residence is Clarence House, St. James's Palace, London.

Mr. Armstrong-Jones, who is now giving up his professional photographic work, has his studio next to his flat in Pimlico, London. It was here that he took many of portraits which establish him as one of London's leading society photographers, who in the last three years has often taken pictures of the Royal family.
