  • Description

Yugoslavia' s President Tito has expressed concern over the slow progress in solving international economic problems and the worsening of the situation in developing countries. The President voiced his fears in a joint communique issued by him and Venezuela's President Carlos Andres Perez at the end of a three day state visit to Venezuela on Friday (19 March).

President Tito was scheduled to sign the communique the previous night but cancelled the ceremony and a planned news conference because he was very tired.

The Yugoslav leader visited Venezuela at the end of his South American tour during which he also visited Mexico and Panama. Although he looked fit and considerably younger than his 83 years it became increasingly apparent during the tour that he was fatigued with his busy round of engagements.

In their communique on Friday morning President Tito and President Perez called for a new international economic order based on equality, interdependence, common interests and co-operation between states.

President Tito was accompanied on the tour by his wife, Jovanka. One of their last engagements in Venezuela was a state banquet hosted by President and Mrs. Perez in the capital, Caracas.

SYNOPSIS: Caracas, Venezuela, where Venezuela's President Carols Andres Perez and his wife hosted a state banquet in honour of Yugoslavia's President Tito and his wife Jovanka on Thursday. The banquet came at the end of a busy three day state visit by the Yugoslav couple.

During the evening President Tito presented his host with a sash and medal, a mark of the esteem in which he holds Venezuela and its leader.

President and Mrs. Tito have just completed a South American tour during which they also visited Panama and Mexico. Although the President looks well and younger than his 83 years it was obvious that he found the tour exhausting.

Before leaving for home on Friday President Tito issued a joint communique with President Perez in which they expressed concern over the slow progress in solving international economic problems.
