  • Description

Argentina's Guillermo Vilas has reached the semi-finals of the United States Open tennis championship by beating South African Ray Moore 6-1, 6-1, 6-0. It took Vilas just 80 minutes to win the match at Forest Hills.

SYNOPSIS: The unseeded Moore lacked the class to give Vilas any serious trouble during the three sets.

Victory for Vilas brought his sequence of winning sets to 34. It also meant that he hasn't lost a match on clay since May 17th. Shortly after that he won the French championship in Paris for the first time.

The Argentinian's success has resulted from a basic change in tactics over the past year.

Vilas has become far more aggressive and rarely wastes an opportunity to attack the net. This rally - although he lost it - was a good example of the way he kept attacking Moore.

By the end of the match there was little fight left in the South African, who won only two games out of three sets.
