ABOUT 250 WOMEN PARADED THROUGH THE STREETS OF TEL AVIV IN ISRAEL ON TUESDAY PROTESTING AGAINST THE WAR IN VIETNAM. LEADERS OF THE UNITED STATES EMBASSY IN THE CITY -- BUT THEY WERE TURNED AWAY BY A POLICEMAN.

PAMPHLETS WERE DISTRIBUTED TO ALL THE MARCHERS -- AND TO THE ONLOOKERS. THE PAMPHLETS CALLED FOR IMMEDIATE PEACE IN VIETNAM -- AND FOR WORLD PEACE GENERALLY.

THE MARCH WAS HELD BY THE "DEMOCRATIC WOMEN" ORGANISATION -- WHICH WAS GIVEN PERMISSION TO DEMONSTRATE IN THE CITY BY THE POLICE DEPARTMENT. THE MARCH WAS CARRIED OUT WITHOUT INCIDENT.

(MEANWHILE INTENSE DIPLOMATIC ACTIVITY AIMED AT BRINGING ABOUT PEACE IN VIETNAM HAS BEEN GOING ON IN SEVERAL WORLD CAPITALS. MR AVERELL HARRIMAN, PRESIDENT JOHNSON'S AMBASSADOR AT LARGE, HAD TALKS IN WARSAW WITH THE POLISH FOREIGN MINISTER, MR ADAM RAPACKI, WHILE THE AMERICAN AMBASSADOR TO THE UNITED NATIONS MR ARTHUR GOLDBERG HAD TALKS WITH POPE PAUL IN THE VATICAN. THE TALKS ARE SAID TO BE IN ACCORDANCE WITH PRESIDENT JOHNSON'S STATED DESIRE OF EXHAUSTING ALL PROSPECTS FOR PEACE BEFORE "OTHER HARD STEPS ARE TAKEN" IN THE VIETNAM WAR. BUT, IN A MESSAGE TO PEOPLE PAUL, THE NORTH VIETNAMESE PRESIDENT HO CHI MINH HAS ACCUSED PRESIDENT JOHNSON OF PLANNING TO INTENSIFY AND EXTEND THE WAR IN VIETNAM.)
