    Prime Minister Kakuei Tanaka of Japan arrived in Peking on the morning of September 25 by special plane for a visit to China at the invitation of Chou En-lai, Premier of the State Council of the People's Republic of China, to negotiate and settle the question of the normalization of relations between China and Japan. He is accompanied by Masayoshi Ohira, Minister for Foreign Affairs, Susumu Nikaido, Chief of the Cabinet Secretariat, and others.

    Greeting them at the airport were Chou En-lai, Premier of the State Council; Yeh Chien-ying, Vice-Chairman of the Military Commission and Vice-Chairman of the National Defence Council; Kuo Mo-jo, Vice-Chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress and Honorery President of the China-Japan Friendship Association; Chou Chien-jen, Vice-Chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress; Chi Peng-fei, Minister of Foreign Affairs; Wu Teh, Chairman of the Peking Municipal Revolutionary Committee; Fang yi, Minister of Economic Relations with Foreign Countries; Pai Hsiang-kuo, Minister of Foreign Trade; Lia??? Chengchih, Adviser to the Minister of Foreign Affairs and President of the China-Japan Friendship s???lation; Han Nine-Lung, Vice-Minister of Foreign Affairs; Wang Kuo-chuan, President of the Chinese People's Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries and Vice-President of the China-Japan Friendship Association; and others.

    A welcoming ceremony was held at the airport. The band played the national anthems of Japan and China.

    Prime Minister Kakuei Tanaka, accompanied by Premier Chou En-lai, reviewed a guard of honour made up of men of the ground, naval and air forces of the Chinese People's Liberation Army.

    Also present at the airport were members of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress and leading members of departments concerned.
