BRANDT: "From the talks Bruno Kreisky and I had in Vienna in July this year we hadn't asked for anything more than that the bureau should take note of this. But then our Israeli friends to take that point are more susceptible, more political than others is only too understandable, I think. Background: Former West German Chancellor Willy Brandt has told world Socialist leaders that contact should be maintained with the Palestine Liberation Organisation to further Middle-East peace. Herr Brandt made the proposal at a conference of the International Socialist Bureau, held this week in Estoril, Portugal.
SYNOPSIS: The two day conference was attended by representatives from twenty socialist parties. Among the delegates was President Leopold Senghor of Senegal, ex-President Carlos Perez of Venezuela and "Commander Zero" Eden Pastora of Nicaragua's victorious Sandinist guerrillas.
The leaders discussed major international problems including the energy crisis, Southern Africa and the Middle East. Herr Brandt who's Bureau President spoke of the meeting he and Austrian Chancellor Bruno Kreisky had earlier this year with P.L.O. leader Yasser Arafat.
