THERE HAS BEEN POLITICAL UNREST IN SARAWAK FOR THE PAST WEEK, EVER SINCE THE HIGH COURT RULED THAT DATO STEPHEN KALONG NINGKHAN HAD BEEN WRONGLY DISMISSED AS CHIEF MINISTER BY THE STATE GOVERNOR, ACTING ON THE ADVICE OF THE PRIME MINISTER, TUNKU ABDUL RHAMAN. SINCE HE RESUMED OFFICE, HE HAS HAD NO CO-OPERATION FROM THE CENTRAL GOVERNMENT.

    MEANWHILE, PENGHULU TAWI SLI WHO WAS BRIEFLY CHIEF MINISTER AFTER THE DISMISSAL OF DATO STEPHEN NINGKHAN, HAS ASKED FOR POLICE PROTECTION FOLLOWING ALLEGED THREATS OF VIOLENCE AND KIDNAPPING AGAINST MEMBERS OF THE COUNCIL NEGRI (PARLIAMENT).

    AT THE HOME IN KUCHING OF THE MINISTER FOR SARAWAK AFFAIRS IN THE CENTRAL GOVERNMENT, DATO TEMENGGONG JUGAH, AND THE MEMBERS OF THE COUNCIL SUPPORTING PENGHULU SLI REFUSED TO LEAVE THE BUILDING UNLESS ACCOMPANIED BY SECURITY POLICE.
