The United States Secretary of Defence, Mr. James R. Schlesinger, arrived at the Andrews Air Force Base in Maryland, U.S.A., on Thursday (8 November), after attending the fourteenth semi-annual Ministerial meeting of the NATO Nuclear Planning Group (NPG) at The Hague, Netherlands on Tuesday and Wednesday (6 and 7 November).
The meeting had been chaired by the Secretary General of NATO, Dr. Joseph M.A.H. Luns. The members of the NPG are currently Canada, the Federal Republic of Germany, Greece, Italy, the Netherlands, Norway, the United Kingdom and the United States.
Immediately after his arrival from Europe, Mr. Schlesinger, spoke to newsmen at a new conference held in the VIP lounge at the Air Force base. He was asked a bout the present relationship between the Untied States ??? West Germany, following the "misunderstandings" that acrose during the Middle East War. He reaffirmed that the Nixon Administration had no intention of reducing United States forces in Germany unilaterally.
